IGT and Bally's-Round One
September 12, 2008
by Tony Stevens
Bally
Technologies and International Game Technology (IGT) are going
toe to toe on the first of many patent infringement lawsuits and
the first round has gone to IGT.
IGT was accused in this case of infringing on Bally's patents in
the use on IGT's Wheel of Fortune Slot machine. The judge ruled
that the "patent infringement claims were invalid due to
obviousness and prior art."
Most of the lawsuits that these two are filing against each
other involve bonus round enhancements that could lead to
jackpots in the millions of dollars.
And while Bally lost this first round, they seem to have
expected to have done so, claiming that it is strengthening
their other cases, while IGT is simple claiming victory on the
merits of the decision.
We will be following these suits in future articles.
